For this model year, the Ram 1500 received the most significant changes in several years. It has significantly upgraded the features plus added a new, more fuel efficient V6 engine and available eight-speed transmission. Inside, the interior has been refreshed as well.
It is available in twelve unique models and packages. 2013 Ram 1500 drivers have the choice between rear and four-wheel drive, three cabins, and three bed lengths. It can be had in regular, Quad, or four-door crew cabs. The bed can be short, medium, or long.
The exterior has a few small, subtle changes. The front grille is taller and quad halogen headlights and LED taillights are standard. LED indicators and side markers are optional. Also new for this model year, it has available rain-sensing windshield wipers and power-folding mirrors.
Fuel economy and powertrains have undergone a major revision for the new model year. The base model engine is a Pentastar V6 mated to an eight-speed automatic engine. There is also an available 5.7-liter Hemi V8 with 395-horsepower. In order to improve fuel efficiency, the 2013 Ram 1500 has an active grille shutter that automatically opens and closes depending on the engine's needs and vehicle speed. It also receives a four-corner air suspension to aid in ride height. Electric power steering, which is standard, and a lighter-weight chassis will also help drivers save on fuel costs.
True to Ram truck tradition, the 2013 Ram 1500 boasts an impressive towing capacity range that tops out at 11,500 pounds. The Tradesman Heavy Duty trim offers the most payload capacity at over 3,100 pounds.
